The Story of DISPLACED

When writer/producer/actor Tiffany Hodges volunteered with New Sanctuary Coalition and accompanied undocumented immigrants to court, she witnessed the painfully adverse process they endure to become "legal" and was driven to share this story beyond the courtroom. The short film DISPLACED draws from real cases, with Tiffany weaving these events into a compelling short narrative that allows audiences to see America’s broken immigration system first hand and how a caring citizen can help. DISPLACED provokes thought, inspires action, and sparks meaningful dialogue about the realities for all who strive to call America their home. It premiered on the eastcoast at SOHO International Film Festival where it was nominated for best US Short. It then premiered on the westcoast at Burbank International Film Festival.

The Impact of DISPLACED

DISPLACED screened to a sold out crowd at the prestigious Anthology Film Archives accompanied by a panel discussion for SoulTech Magazine's Soundbites2Solutions. Panelists included immigration attorney Alexandra S. McCown, New York City Council representative Ketih Powers, and Sadye Compoamor, the Chief Equity Officer for NYC Comptroller, Brad Lander. The audience included concerned citizens, prominent social-activists, politicians, and filmmakers. Together with writer Tiffany Hodges and producer Cristina Doikos, this panel explored actionable steps to address the immigration crisis. The event served as a platform for collaboration and advocacy, bringing together individuals dedicated to effecting meaningful change. Now FairSay Films is bringing DISPLACED with tailored panel discussions to audiences across the country as well as educational engagement.

“The film captured the emotions of fear and uncertainty that most, if not all feel when seeking protection here in the United States and have to do that in an adversarial court process. This film was able to capture this in only 13 minutes, yet many immigrants are facing the court process for many years if not over a decade.

Alexandra S. McCown - Pro Bono Immigration Attorney with Manatt

“DISPLACED is a great window into the everyday experience of individuals going through the immigration process -- which many people will never experience so will never understand the difficulties, frustration, and life-changing experiences.

Keith Powers - New York City Council, District 4
